Please Support the Site

I’ve been asked many times how you can support the free tips & tricks, and say “thanks” for the answers in the forums, so I’ve finally added “contribute” buttons to the site. Any and all recurring or one-time contributions are greatly appreciated, and allow me to put more time and energy into ApertureExpert.com! Thank you!

Post Formatting Tips

The post editor here is pretty self explanatory, and feel free to play with it. I do want to maintain some control over the look and feel of this site, so please follow these guidelines while posting.

Not Ready to Post?

If you’re still writing and need to come back to an entry before I approve and post it (and feel free to take your time writing, no rush), just write something like STILL WRITING or DON’T POST YET at the top of the entry. I’ll see that and leave it be until you remove that text.

Formatting

Controls across the top of the editor allow you to make text bold, italic, underlined, etc.:

Use with discretion; no making everything bold or everything italic just to get attention. Text will be justified automatically.

Add links, video or custom code from the toolbar on the left:

You can’t actually upload photos, but if you can post them somehwere like flickr, you can grab their embed code from flickr and post here using the little gear icon. If you want me to post the photos for you, then email them to me at joseph@apertureexpert.com and in the body of your post, be sure to be clear about where they belong. Images should be no bigger than 560 pixels wide. You can also use the Direct URL option (more on that below).

Headers

If your post has multiple topics deserving of multiple headers (like this one), use the Heading (H3) format under the FORMAT menu.

Excerpts

If you post a really long entry, make an excerpt by selecting the first couple of paragraphs (images are OK too) and clicking the Define Excerpt button (to the left of the ABC [spellcheck] button).

Images

Images should be resized to fit within 560 pixels wide so they fit the column. You can post images that are hosted on other sites using the Direct URL option, but again they have to be 560 pixels wide or less. If you post or reference photos, be sure to link them to the original and credit the owner, and don’t violate copyrights!

URLs

If you include any links, use the link button on the left and if it’s an offsite link, label it as such (and choose to have it open in a new window). You’ll see the options in there.

Have fun, and thanks for contributing!
