Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 12:55 PM ApertureExpert Live Training Session 006: Listener Questions
Welcome to the sixth ApertureExpert Live Training session!
What, you missed the last ones? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 each and a large HD download.
This session is all you and your questions. Before moving on from the import and organization agenda of the past five sessions, I wanted to give everyone a chance to ask the kinds of questions that can’t easily be answered in the forums. Question submission is now closed (you can see all the requests here), and I’ve compiled a list of questions to be answered, all listed below under “Questions”.
on Wed/Thurs, May 18/19 (check your time zone!) at…
Los Angeles: 7:00 pm (1900 Wednesday May 18)
New York: 10:00 pm (2200)
London: 3:00 am (2100 Thursday May 19)
Hong Kong: 10:00 am (1000)
Sydney: 12:00 pm (1200)
Please be sure to check your time zone carefully. When you register, you can choose to view the time in your own time zone—which will be more reliable than my calculations above! Please do to ensure you don’t miss out.
Space is limited to just 100 seats—sign up early and read the attendance policy!
Did you miss the earlier sessions? No fear, they’re available here.
Agenda
30~60 minutes — prepared questions
15 minutes — follow-up questions
Questions
- What is your on-the-road (laptop) to in-the-studio (desktop) strategy? — from Robert Sfeir
- How do you manage a portfolio of best-work in Aperture, especially across multiple libraries, and then sync those to an iPad? — from Robert Sfier and Kenneth Lim
- How can you create gradients in Aperture? — Argun Tekant
- How do you create and customize books in Aperture across multiple Libraries and Projects? — Shamus Cromarty and Chris Hoch
- Do you have any tips on white balance & color correction across large projects, such as a wedding? Lift & Stamp doesn’t always seem elegant. — Kenneth Lim
- Can you explain RAW vs JPG… what’s the real advantage of RAW? — Graham Parker
Follow-up Questions
Feel free to submit your follow-up question(s) any time during the session, however they will not be addressed until the closing (normally reserved for Q&A). IT’S LIKELY NOT ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED—we simply won’t have time.
If you don’t get your question answered live, feel free to post it in the forum.
Download
Remember, you’re watching this for free, but the paid $2 downloadable version will be available at here at ApertureExpert.tv within 24 hours after the session. Even if you get to watch live, if you enjoyed the session, I’d certainly appreciate the support of buying the download anyway. Naturally you’re under no obligation to do so, but it’ll help keep us “on the air”!
That’s it! Enjoy the session.

Joseph,
When I first saw the questions you'd be answering tonight before the webinar started, I didn't think I'd learn much new. I was wrong again. Great job showing me new things about Aperture. I especially liked the gradient trick.
Thanks again.
Tom
What an excellent session. You have a style that is clear and speedy, without unnecessary babble and straight to the point without glossing over the details.
And the gradient trick was jaw dropping.
Keep missing the live sessions. However, I have downloaded all the previous tutorials. I have just just made my way through the first one. I would have NEVER figured all that out or even attempted to customize in such a way, but now its a snap!
Thank you for making the prices reasonable.
I will be following faithfully in the future. I am very grateful for your site and great information.
This is by far the best resource I have found for Aperture help.
This was a great session full of new Aperture tips and tricks for me. I really like how I even end up learning tricks outside of Aperture i.e. command clicking the Finder folder at the top of the Finder window lets you see the nested folder structure. I have been wondering how to do that for a long time!
Joseph- I really enjoyed participating in the session and have downloaded and re-listened to it. I always pick up little pearls in each and every lesson you have given Can't wait for numero 7.

like so many other followers on this website, I have been using Aperture for quite some time now and I ALWAYS pickup new time-saving techniques from the sessions. great job as always.
