ApertureExpert Live Training Session 003: Folders and Projects and Albums, oh my!

Welcome to the third ApertureExpert Live Training session!

What, you missed the first two? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 each and a large HD download :)

This session is all about structure within Aperture, how the organization tools work, and some suggestions on organizing your own workflow. We’ll discuss all the organizational components in Aperture, including Folders, Projects, Albums and Smart Albums… look at the search tools, the Projects view, Photos view, and individual Projects & Albums views. By the end of this segment, you’ll have no questions on exactly what each of these does, how they work, and how to put them to work for you!

on Friday, March 25 at…

Los Angeles: 3:00 pm (1500)
New York: 6:00 pm (1800)
London: 10:00 pm (2200)
Hong Kong: 6:00 am (0600+1d = Saturday March 26!)

Please be sure to check your time zone. Daylight Savings Time changes have shifted. When you register, you can choose to view the time in your own time zone. Please do to ensure you don’t miss out!

Space is limited to just 100 seats—sign up early and read the attendance policy!

Did you miss the earlier sessions? No fear, they’re available here.

Agenda

30 minutes - lesson
15 minutes - Q&A

Questions (Q&A)

Feel free to submit your ON-TOPIC question(s) any time during the session, however they will not be addressed until the Q&A. If you’re thinking of submitting a question, take your time to craft it into a logical, coherent question that I can read live and answer without needing further info. IT’S LIKELY NOT ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED—we simply won’t have time. A selection of the best questions will be chosen by an assistant moderator, and those will be sent to me (like a live call-in radio show; “Bob from New York asks…”). If there are several similar questions, they will be combined into a larger single question.

If you don’t get your question answered live, feel free to post it in the forum.

Download

Remember, you’re watching this for free, but the paid $2 downloadable version will be available at here at ApertureExpert.tv within 24 hours after the session. Even if you get to watch live, if you enjoyed the session, I’d certainly appreciate the support of buying the download anyway. Naturally you’re under no obligation to do so, but it’ll help keep us “on the air”!

That’s it! Enjoy the session.

Joseph,

Thanks again for this webinar. I'm always amazed at the things I don't know that I didn't know I didn't know. You know?

BTW, the one question asked that you didn't understand was about the "Library Albums" that contain the smart albums for the entire library. The first entry under "Projects & Albums". Honestly I've forgotten what the question was but it was about that section of the Library.

Keep up the great webinars and website. I'm still learning.

Joseph,

another very useful and informative session. Thank you very much. It's a fantastic way to learn and I like the way you teach :)
However, asking the question about the Project Template, it would be fantastic if you'd be willing to share a typical setup of yours. Including Folders, Ratings, Smart Albums (with the different search criteria) and Albums. A real world example. I'm struggling a bit with finding a generic structure that I can use as a base for every project.

Many thanks
Tom

Joseph

I really appreciated the time and effort that you gave to us all. Finally after using Aperture for a couple of years I finally understand the differences between folders, project and albums. Thanks again for all you do.

Very grateful for yesterday's topic. As an Aperture newbie (having emigrated from iPhoto!), I was totally overwhelmed by the organizational options! You made it easy and clear...and I'm grateful! I'll definitely be back for future webinars. Thanks!

Joseph, I've downloaded all 3 of your webinars for points of reference. I joined in late on this one (my first webinar as an attendee). Firefox was not behaving properly regarding Java but when I switched to Safari, bingo I was in. Anyway, as the others have already mentioned, I keep learning and learning. Heard about TextExpander on one of your previous sessions and bookmarked the web site. After this recent session I finally downloaded it today and got my snippet for the date (year-month-day) that I learned from you. I use that for all of my file management now-even Word docs, Excel, etc. Anyway, can't wait for Learning session #4.

As an Aperture newbie, as Mark David wrote above, I have now seen two of your seminars and found them quite helpful. You seem to choose a clearly defined scope to cover in the 30 minutes and do a great job of sticking (mostly ;-) to it. I've used iPhoto since day one for it and finding the transition interesting. Your tutorials (and the ebook I purchased) are helping quite a bit.

Thanks Joseph,

I really enjoyed the session. Despite having to get up at 5.45am so I could make a cuppa before you started. Most of what you discussed I had read about in your e books or on the site but I always find it sinks in better when seeing it done. I did get excited when you briefly mentioned stacks as I don't know much about these and just as you were giving an explanation my sound dropped out, typical! A technical hitch my end I think. I guess I'll just have to download the session! Looking forward to the next one,

Cheers Viv
