Aperture 3 for Only $79?!

You read that right… Aperture 3 is available for just $79.99 on the band spanking new Mac App Store.

To get the new Store, you’ll have to run Software Update and bump up to Mac OS X 10.6.6. There’s not a whole lotta info on 10.6.6 itself, but here’s the kb article if you’re interested.

Once you’ve run the update, you’ll see a shiny new icon in your dock!

Launch that bad boy, search for Aperture, and check this out…

Of course if you already have Aperture installed, you’ll see this…

It’ll be interesting to see when the next Aperture (or any app) update comes that you haven’t installed via the new App Store, if it shows up in this App Store or not. Right now when I look at my Purchases, it shows that I “have not yet purchased any apps”, yet as you can see from the screenshot above, the App Store does recognize that Aperture 3 is already installed.

Time will tell. In the meantime, if you’ve been playing with the trial for Aperture and hesitating over the purchase price, get it now! No telling if this is a permanent price reduction, or a temporary sale to get traffic on the App Store.

Interesting, when I pulled A3 up in the app store I didn't even realize the price point was so low as it didn't reflect any pricing. I then went to the pages of some other apps that I owned and same thing, no price. I then went to a couple of apps I do own and there was a price listed for those. Very interesting....

So I paid $199 for Aperture2 about 1-1/2 yr ago & then $99 for the Aperture3 upgrade last fall = $298 versus it now costs $79?! I think I'll be calling AppleCare tomorrow ...
There is absolutely no phone support for A3 after 90 days, & some of it's pretty complex. For $79 it wouldn't bother me so much.

Typically any price reduction will merit a refund only for purchases in the last 30 days. Prices drop on everything—cars, computers, a box of detergent at Walmart… that's normal and expected. Aperture was $500 when first introduced. I wouldn't expect any refund at this stage I'm afraid.

As with anything, as long as you've used the product since you bought it, you've been getting value from it. If you knew the software was going to be $120 cheaper a year and a half ago, would you have waited a year and a half to buy it?

Joseph--
Yes, of course, I know all that. But I paid $1499 for my 20" iMac in Feb 2009 & about 3 months later I learned that the price had dropped to $1199 only 6 weeks after my purchase. I called Apple. They refunded $300, altho my return period was up after 4 weeks.

Pretty sweet deal. Do let us know what they say.
