This installment will start into “the rest of them”, kicking off with Colors, Black & White, and probably more (depending on time). These are the less used but still very useful tools, and I’ll also show you how to use the Color tool to remove digital noise—without using de-noise algorithms (which I’ve never liked)!

ApertureExpert Live Training Session 007: Keywords

Welcome to the seventh ApertureExpert Live Training session!

What, you missed the last ones? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 each and a large HD download :)

This session is all about keywords in Aperture 3. We’ll move on to Adjustments soon, I promise, but this important metadata topic should not be overlooked. Keywording can be easy if, like everything else in Aperture, you develop a consistent strategy. We’ll look at understanding Aperture’s hierarchical keywording capabilities, applying keywords, searching by them, and more.

ApertureExpert Live Training Session 006: Listener Questions

Welcome to the sixth ApertureExpert Live Training session!

What, you missed the last ones? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 each and a large HD download.

This session is all you and your questions. Before moving on from the import and organization agenda of the past five sessions, I wanted to give everyone a chance to ask the kinds of questions that can’t easily be answered in the forums. Question submission is now closed (you can see all the requests here), and I’ve compiled a list of questions to be answered, all listed below under “Questions”.

on Wed/Thurs, May 18/19 (check your time zone!) at…

Los Angeles: 7:00 pm (1900 Wednesday May 18)
New York: 10:00 pm (2200)
London: 3:00 am (2100 Thursday May 19)

ApertureExpert Live Training Session 005: Rating, Flagging & Labeling Strategies

Space is limited to just 100 seats—sign up early and read the attendance policy!

Did you miss the earlier sessions? No fear, they’re available here.

Agenda

30 minutes - lesson
15 minutes - Q&A

Questions (Q&A)

Feel free to submit your ON-TOPIC question(s) any time during the session, however they will not be addressed until the Q&A. If you’re thinking of submitting a question, take your time to craft it into a logical, coherent question that I can read live and answer without needing further info. IT’S LIKELY NOT ALL QUESTIONS WILL BE ANSWERED—we simply won’t have time.

If you don’t get your question answered live, feel free to post it in the forum.

Download

Remember, you’re watching this for free, but the paid $2 downloadable version will be available at here at ApertureExpert.tv within 24 hours after the session. Even if you get to watch live, if you enjoyed the session, I’d certainly appreciate the support of buying the download anyway. Naturally you’re under no obligation to do so, but it’ll help keep us “on the air”!

That’s it! Enjoy the session.

ApertureExpert Live Training Session 004: Smart Albums & Search

Welcome to the fourth ApertureExpert Live Training session!

What, you missed the first few? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 each and a large HD download :)

NOTE: I am currently in Vietnam and at the whim of an extremely problematic hotel ISP. The selected time slot is chosen because the group I’m with will be out of the hotel at that time—70+ bandwidth hogging tech-heads will be gone for the afternoon. Wish us luck… and if it simply doesn’t work, there’s always the download later!

This session is all about search within Aperture. The search HUD (Head’s Up Display) and Smart Album interface are one and the same, so we’ll dissect this dialog and show just how powerful searching really is in Aperture 3. The tools to find *that photo* are one of Aperture’s greatest strengths, and understanding search can help you understand just how deep the metadata rabbit hole goes

on Sat/Sun, April 9/10 (check time zones carefully!) at…

Honolulu: 7:00 pm (1900 Saturday April 9)
Los Angeles: 10:00 pm (2200)
New York: 1:00 am (0100 Sunday April 10)
London: 6:00am (0600)

Welcome to the third ApertureExpert Live Training session!

What, you missed the first two? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 each and a large HD download :)

This session is all about structure within Aperture, how the organization tools work, and some suggestions on organizing your own workflow. We’ll discuss all the organizational components in Aperture, including Folders, Projects, Albums and Smart Albums… look at the search tools, the Projects view, Photos view, and individual Projects & Albums views. By the end of this segment, you’ll have no questions on exactly what each of these does, how they work, and how to put them to work for you!

on Friday, March 25 at…

Los Angeles: 3:00 pm (1500)
New York: 6:00 pm (1800)
London: 10:00 pm (2200)

What, you missed the first one? That’s easily fixable with a visit to the Live Training catalog, $2 and a large download :)

As you saw last week, while importing may seem like a simple task (and it certainly can be), there are lots of options in here that are worth knowing. The more you know, the better your file storage strategy becomes, ensuring a long, successful relationship with Aperture and your photos.

LiveTraining Session 001: Importing Your Photos DOWNLOAD

Here’s the first session, ready to download! I know those who sat in on the live session enjoyed it, and I had a blast broadcasting. I’ll get the next one scheduled soon, and we’ll continue on the “Importing your photos” lesson that we couldn’t quite get through in the last one!

By the way, this turned into 45 minutes of training and 15 minutes of Q&A—so an hour of Aperture goodness in here!

Its’ a 361MB download; please be prepared for that. It’s encoded as H.264 at 1280x720, so it will look great on your computer, iPad, or even on your big screen TV. It even looks great on the iPhone 4, if you can believe that.

As promised, just $2 to download!

ApertureExpert LiveTraining Session 001: Importing Your Photos

UPDATE Saturday Feb 26

The session has registered FULL, however the way the GoToWebinar system works is first-come, first-served—for joining the session! It doesn’t matter when you signed up, only when you join.

I’ll open the room 15 minutes prior to start. If registration gets more than 15% over capacity, I’ll close registration. I expect some drop-off but don’t want a bunch of unhappy ApertureExpert readers, either!

Welcome to the first ApertureExpert Live Training session! In today’s session, we’ll focus on the import dialog. While importing may seem like a simple task (and it certainly can be), there are lots of options in here that are worth knowing.
